Play & Learn
For Older Children
Empty the pops on the table or floor and scramble the letters. Set a timer for 2 minutes and have children spell as many words as they can. Each letter in the word counts as a point, so the longer the word the more points the child receives.
At random pull letters and numbers from the package and ask kids what letter or number is next in the series. For older children, patterns can be established, such as every other letter (A, C, E, G, and what comes next in the pattern?)
Challenge kids to add or subtract the numbers you pull from the bag.
In the center of a board or large table, use Saf-T-Pops to spell out one long word that will serve as the topic for the game. For example: weather. Challenge children to use their Saf-T-Pops to develop new words using one of the letters in the existing word - crossword style. For example, a child might use the "r" in weather to begin the word "rain". Children can continue to build on each other's words (for example, the next child might use the "n" in rain to spell "sunshine"), using as many of the Saf-T-Pop letters as possible.
For Younger Children
Empty the pops on the table or floor and scramble the letters. Set a timer for 2 minutes and have kids put the letters and numbers in alphabetical and numerical order, leaving spaces for any that are missing. Score points for the most correct letters and/or numbers in each sequence.
At random pull letters and numbers from the package and ask kids to identify the letter or number, and then tell you what letter or number is next in the series.
In the center of a board or large table, use Saf-T-Pops to spell out a single long word - perhaps the name of the school, the name or the teacher, or any random word. Challenge children to use their Saf-T-Pop letters to form new words using the letters in the existing word. Give one point for every letter used, including the "duplicated" letter.
For Very Young Children
Saf-T-Pop Flash Cards
Ask the child to identify the letter or number on the Saf-T-Pop. When they get it right, turn the pop over and ask them to identify the letter or number on the other side. You can also use this game to teach the child to identify colors.
Empty the pops on the table or floor and scramble the letters. Set a timer for 2 minutes and ask the children to choose one pop at a time and identify the letter or number on each side. Set aside the correctly identified pops, and see if they can improve the number of pops in their pile during each two-minute segment.
Challenge children to find a pop that shows how old they are.
Find the Missing Letter
On a desk or other flat surface, use Saf-T-Pops to form words, leaving a space for a missing letter. Ask the child to search and find the missing letter, and place it on the table in the right spot to complete the word.
